bACKGROUND

Dunton is a historic mountain paradise with a water fall, wetlands, streams, and an abundance of hot springs. The property owners had done an incredible job transforming this historic mining town and local "hippie dip" to a world class luxury resort.

THE PROJECT

Dunton Hot Springs owner, Christoph Henkel, was in the process of creating a luxury mountain resort from a historic settlement established in 1885. Oxbow was hired to support the collaborative restoration effort of this town by enhancing the natural feel and connectivity of the cabins with the beautiful and natural surrounding scenery. Our focus was the design and construction of landscape improvements, stream channel and pond enhancements with a priority to preserve the biodiversity of the wetlands with additional pond creation. In support of the project vision, our goal was to ensure every aspect of the land was preserved in its natural form so visitors could not distinguish between natural formations and those we created to enhance the property.

THE RESULT

Today, Dunton has continued to impress guests from all over the world with its luxurious yet historic recapture of a late 1800s mining settlement. Oxbow is pleased to have supported the creation of the property's trails, stream and river improvements, landscape construction, and wetland areas in a way the preserves natural ecosystems and maintains the feel and authenticity of wild spaces.
